UK property market stalls as buyer demand drops sharply
Zoopla data reveals the UK property market is stalling with 60% of homes unsold since January due to high mortgage rates and political uncertainty.
The UK property market is currently experiencing a significant slowdown, with three in five homes listed for sale since January remaining unsold. According to Zoopla’s latest House Price Index, this stagnation is driven by higher mortgage rates and ongoing political uncertainty, which continue to weigh heavily on buyer confidence.
Data from the portal indicates that sales agreed over the past four weeks have fallen by 7% compared with the same period a year ago. This decline in transaction volume reflects a sharp drop in buyer demand, suggesting that potential purchasers are hesitating to enter the market under current economic conditions.
The combination of elevated borrowing costs and a lack of political clarity has created a challenging environment for the housing sector. As buyer demand contracts, the proportion of unsold properties increases, highlighting a clear imbalance between supply and the current appetite for purchasing homes.
